A project with 10 municipalities working together to discover how their citizens envision the future of the county. “Dreams of Salten” will create a current picture of what the people of Salten think about the future of the place they call home.

Salten Kultursamarbeid, a group consisting of members from 10 municipalities across the county, are leading the project with a shared vision of contributing to the European City of Culture project in 2024. The project’s work will be done through libraries, cultural schools, and other cultural administrations across all 10 municipalities. Bodø 2024, IKS, Nordland County Council and Rabalder productions are also key partners in implementing the project.

Dreams of Salten

About the Project:

Dreams of Salten is a project that will gather a collection of visions for the future from citizens across the entire county. We will promote people’s ability to present an imagined future, inspire young people to dream and see opportunities in a world that is progressively described as one full of uncertainty and without hope.

We hope to motivate the population and help them find hope and excitement in what the future can hold. We want to shine a light on all dreams, big or small, that everybody carries within themselves.

The dreams and ideas will be collected in various ways such as through art workshops, schools and libraries. A team of of «dreamcatchers» will travel around meeting people and collecting their dreams on video. In addition to this, it will be possible for anybody to send in their ideas directly. One dream from each municipality will be selected to be dramatized by Rabalder Productions.

Now is the time to share your dream and support one another! Maybe your dream can inspire another to dream and in turn, get the whole population seeing hope and the possibilities in our future.

Why dream?
Daydreaming Is among the most important forms of creative thinking and has always been a catalyst for innovation and development. A Salten without dreams is a Salten without hope. In order to overcome the challenges of climate change, renewable energy, and population decline that lay ahead, it is vital that  the people of Salten be allowed to daydream.  We need new ideas. New solutions. And dreams. Dreams that will allow our community to evolve and develop. Research shows that daydreaming has positive effects on our mental health as well, so we can dream with a good conscience, safe in the knowledge we are not just helping others, but ourselves too.

In a historical context, we see that times of crisis are fertile ground for dreams and visions of the future. In today's Europe, with many ominous threats and a somewhat one-sided media portrayal, it's easy to fall into a dystopian mindset about the future. Climate, war, and conflict are recurring prophecies.

The question is: Do we dare to dream if there's nothing positive to look forward to? What are we really fighting to preserve in our lives in Salten if everything is bleak? How can your dreams contribute to our societal development?

We hope everybody in Salten will share the dreams and hope with us when the project launches on June 21st. 2023.
What is your dream?
